The Pittsburgh Pirates

Hey all,

The Pittsburgh Pirates are on a bit of a tare as of late, though they lost last night to the Blue Jays. They won their series with the Red Sox 2-1, and are tied in a 3 game series with the Toronto Blue Jays. With the Bucco's elevating their play as of late, they were able to pull ahead from the dreaded .500 mark and get a game above .500. If they can complete yet another series win against the Blue Jays tonight they will move to two games over .500 and hopefully keep this winning thing goin. Now I know most people are still not give the Bucs any credit, even though they were able to get above .500. Pittsburgh should be able to move well above .500 with the schedule they have coming up. They will complete their road trip with the Washington Nationals this weekend. This is a very winnable series if not a sweep. Then the Buccos have an amazing home stand starting off with the Huston Astros followed by the Chicago Cubs. These are both potential sweep series and a great chance for the Pirates to get themselves back on the winning side of things. People should think smart and start thinking of the Pirates as a contender this year for the postseason. This is a team with a great pitching staff and on the offensive side of things the bats are moving and they are scoring runs. They shouldn't have to wait till after the All Star break to start hearing their name come up in conversation. Just because, in the past, the Pirates weren't very good, doesn't mean that things couldn't have changed this year. I believe that they are on the right track and can make a series run for the post season or a division title.

Pirates Win The Series?!?

Hey all,
'm sure like myself, most of you are really shocked about the Red Sox/Pirates series. I had no idea that this would be the outcome. I predicted that the Pirates would get one out of the three games, but never win the series and even though they didn't get the sweep. In my opinion, the Pirates got lucky in the first game. Lester was pitching well and Maholm wasn't doing so hot. It looked like Paul Maholm couldn't find the strike zone for the life of him. The one major turning point in this game that sucked the wind right out of the Sox sails, was the Pirates scoring two big time runs and going ahead 3-1. The bullpen came through for Maholm to get the win, and they put the hammer down and Hanrahan was credited with the save.

As for tonight's game, it was a great game from start to finish. The Red Sox got off to the lead early thanks to a 2 run homerun by Red Sox first basemen Adrian Gonzalez. The lead was short lived thanks to the bat of Overbay, hitting a 3 run blast to right field and brought the Pirates the lead in this game. They scored one more after the 3 run HR in the 4th inning, and once more in the 5th, making the score 5-2 in favor of the Pirates. The Red Sox tried to make a come back from there having a big 7th inning and getting two big HRs off the bats of Dustin Pedroia and Adrian Gonzalez. This made the score 5-4 in favor of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Pittsburgh put the nail in the coffin by getting another big run and taking the lead by 2 once again. This brought out BIG PAPIE to try and get things rollin, pinch hitting for the pitcher. Papie didn't do so hot, grounding out and getting the first out of the inning. Jacoby Ellsbury was up next and the Hammer got it done and struck him out. That brought up speedy Dustin Pedroia, who hit a big drive deep to right field. Xavier Paul almost made a spectacular catch to end the game but just came up a few inches short, and Pedroia made it all the way to 2nd. After this came up the man no one at PNC Park wanted to see, Adrian Gonzalez. With two outs, down by 2, and having already put up 2 runs for the Sox this game, his presence was dreaded at the plate. The Pirates put down the Hammer after a great battle at the plate, but Joel Hanrahan got it done. Fastball, after fastball was fouled off; the Hammer went off speed and low, causing Gonzalez to try and check swing but couldn't stop himself in time. So for the second day in a row against Boston they "RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER IN PITTSBURGH!"  The Pirates won the series and are going for the sweep of the Boston Red Sox. This series is a hard one for me to watch. Being both a Pirates and Red Sox fan, and the fact that these two teams never play each other. I never thought I would be put in the position with two of my favorite teams playing each other. I guess you would say it's a win win, and that might be so, but it still makes it tough to watch.

Pirates vs. Red Sox

Hey all,

With the Pirates heating up as of late they face a team who is playing just as hot as they are. The Boston Red Sox come into Pittsburgh for a 3 game series. This is a great series, for me at least. These are my two favorite teams and both are playing really good baseball. With the Pirates hanging around .500 they are putting themselves in the hunt for a post season birth. They are starting to swing the bats well and the pitching has increased as well. The only problem I see with tonights game is Paul Maholm is on the mound and the Pirates normally don't get the bats goin when he's pitching.

For the Sox, Lester is on the mound, and the red hot Red Sox will be looking to expand their lead in the AL East. I don't think they will be able to sweep the Pirates, but I do believe they are going to win the series 2-1. The game I think they will lose is tomorrows game with Wakefield pitching. The Pirates always seem to find a way to hit knuckleballer. As for game 3 on Sunday I was hoping to see Josh Becket but with him being out due to illness, his next start got pushed back till Tuesday. Both teams are unsure who they will have on the mound on Sunday. I will be posting again after each game so be looking for each of those.

NHL Update

Hey all,

It saddens me to say that this will be my last blog about hockey till next season. This is because of some big news coming in way of the Pittsburgh Penguins. After an injury filled end of the season to star players Crosby and Malkin, the Pens are looking to rebound coming into next season. They are looking to bring in some older help to the organization. Jaromir Jagr has been talking to the Penguins about rejoining the club. Jagr was in the organization years ago and helped the Pens to two Stanley Cup titles. He will be a big help and someone who knows how the Pens operate and will be a big help to put another star on the star struck team. This way if someone goes down he will be able to fill in. Stay tuned for updates on the deal and if the Pens and Jagr are back together.

NHL Stanley Cup Finals

I can't believe this game, it was one of the best Stanley Cup Finals that I have ever seen. The passe of this game was unbelievable. There was more hits then there were shots on goal in the 2nd period. Both teams played their hearts out, but this game was decided by  what I said it was going to, goal-tending. Tim Thomas played out of his mind, save after save after save. Whereas Ruperto Luongo played good but just couldn't get it done between the pipes. To give you a taste of what it was like, there was big hits that were clean, a lot of shots on goals and almost no penalties through 2 periods. The first one came in the 2nd period with 3:00 left to go in the period. In the second period Boston got a cheep goal on a delayed penalty that shouldn't have counted. To make matters worse it was a short handed goal and the only penalty of the night, to that point.

I'm really shocked that this game had as much scoring in it as it did. Both teams goaltenders play well in Vancouver for some reason. In all the games played in Vancouver were low scoring, game one was decided by one goal 1-0 in favor of Vancouver. The highest scoring game that was played in Vancouver was 3-2 in OT in favor of of the Cancucks. The next game that was played in Canada was 1-0 with just seconds left to go in the game the winner was the Cancucks. Boston was the three games played in Boston, and the Bruins played out of their minds while at home. In game 3 the Bruins won 8-1 the just made Luongo look like Swiss cheese, and I'm sure you know the rest. I was sure that history would repeat itself and Vancouver would come away with a win in this game and take home their first ever Stanley Cup.

Going into the 3rd period the score was 3-0 in favor of Boston, and the passe was not changed at all. Vancouver came out and was showing their heart and playing like they would never play again. Within the first 5:00 of the 3rd period there was the 2nd penalty of the game. It was a cheep shot penalty charged to the Cancucks. It was the frustration coming out of the players after taking a high stick  Thornton came back and just blindsided a player from Boston. There was no need for this to happen, it was a dumb penalty that didn't need to happen, though they killed it off it still didn't need to happen. With 3:37 Vancouver pulled their goalie to get the extra attacker out there and it backfired. Boston got their fourth goal of the game and sealed the deal. The Boston Bruins are your 2011 Stanley Cup Champions. It's not to say that the Vancouver Cancucks didn't come out and give it all they had, it just wasn't enough. The goal-tending of the Bruins was just too much Tim Thomas was unstoppable in this game. He faced 36 shots and stopped everyone of them. This is the first time since 1972, and that was the last time a road team has won a game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final. I was to say congratulations to Boston Bruins and history was made tonight and it was a great series. I can't wait till next hockey season.

Terrelle Pryor

Terrelle Pryor and talking to the media was a joke. This apology was fake and you could tell that his agent told him to say that and not take questions. Him saying the he regrets what happened to his coach was fake and everyone knows it. Also he regrets leaving Ohio State, it was his dissuasion to leave. So he basically is saying that he regrets a dissuasion that he himself made. If Tressell was like a farther to him then he wouldn't have done what he did.

Next on the list is his agent saying that he is a first round pick in the supplemental draft is probably the funnest thing I have ever heard. If he even gets drafted it will be late in the draft like all the experts are saying. He is an average NFL QB at best. He's not a pocket passer and that what you have to be to survive in the NFL. The only exception to this rule is Mike Vick. That man is scary good. Terrelle Pryor should change positions if he wants to be a star in the NFL. WR or TE is his best bet. His agent saying he will be a great NFL QB is a flat out lie. I guess if he think he can do it then the best way to learn something is to fail at it. We will see how long he stay at the QB position after he realizes he won't be the star of the team like he was in college.

NHL

I am really excited about the NHL finals. This series has been nothing but excitement. Both Vancouver and Boston have been doing their best to win this series. This game will come down to a few things, who will hit the most, and which goaltender will show up. The finals have been all about playing and winning at home, the home team has won every game in this series. That's why my production for this game is Vancouver by one. The final would be 1-0 Tim Thomas won't give up but one goal the way he has been playing as of late. Be looking for my comments after the game.
