Nicks Says He'll Be Ready For Opener

Hey All,

As promised the latest on Hakeem Nicks injury. Hakeem Nicks says he’ll be ready for Giants’ season opener

Hakeem Nicks is optimistic about beating the 12-week timetable to rehab his broken right toe.

Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks told reporters in a conference call Thursday that he is not only optimistic about returning for training camp, but when it comes to the season opener on Sept. 5 against the Cowboys, he’ll be suited up and ready to go.

“I don’t have any doubt,” Nicks said.

Nicks had his broken right toe surgically repaired last Friday – one day after suffering the injury – and is optimistic about beating the 12-week timetable to return.

“The doctor said he had people come back as early as four weeks, six weeks to eight weeks,” Nicks said. “My goal is always to come back early. We just don’t want any setbacks.”

“I’m walking around pretty good right now,” he continued. “It is still early. It is just a matter of me being patient and making sure I do all the right things and taking care of my body.”

This is great news for the New York Giants. They can have one of their star receivers back on the field sooner, they get more work with the rookies in training camp and preseason games, and Nicks might not miss a game.

Hammel Accuses Blue Jays

Hey All,

Some say that a reputation can stick with someone for a very long time. That couldn't be more true. Even in the world of sports, once your accused of something, it sticks with you for years to come.

Last year the Blue Jays were accused of having a man in a white hat sitting in the outfield at Rogers Centre tipping pitches to Toronto batters. The Jays denied it, their fans mocked it. But there may be some believers out there, including Orioles right-hander Jason Hammel.

Wednesday night Hammel gave up four solo home runs in 6 2/3 innings against the Blue Jays, with Edwin Encarnacion, Rajai Davis, Brett Lawrie and Colby Rasmus taking him deep.

After blaming himself for leaving the ball up, Hammel told reporters he suspected a little more than his own shortcomings. From the Baltimore Sun:

"When you're not locating your fastball, you're going to give up some home runs here, but the swings they were taking on the breaking stuff, it was pretty amazing to me," Hammel said. "I don't think you can take swings like that not knowing they're coming. I don't know. That's all I can say."

Hammel acknowledged he'd heard the rumors of the Jays stealing signs, both by ESPN the Magazine and by Yankees manager Joe Girardi.

"There's rumors and things like that," Hammel said (via the Sun). "I don't know. I can't speak on that, but they were taking very, very big, strong hacks on breaking stuff. It was something I've never seen before."

All four of the team's homers were on fastballs.

Now I can't say weather this is true or not. But what I can say is that, isn't enough, enough. It's one thing for a manager to accuse someone of cheating, but now pitchers because they had a bad outing. That's just simply ridiculous. Get over it, get back out there in your next start, and play the game. To sit there and blame someone else for your mistakes and your bad game is childish.

Now if the rumors were true, don't you think that the MLB would be doing something about this situation? My thoughts exactly. They would have taken care of the situation last year when the rumors first started. I think everyone needs to just stop wining cuz they didn't get their way, and play the game.

Until next time,

A.J. Burnett Getting It Done

Hey All,

Last night the Pirates took on the Reds in a tied series at 1-1. The winner would win the series and become that much closer to taking the division. The Buccos won the game by a score of 2-1 and took another series, and are back to the .500 mark.

The Bucs did so off of the pitching of A.J. Burnett who, like James McDonald, is getting it done on the mound. In Burnett's 5 starts he is 3-0 and hasn't given up more than 2 run in those 5 starts. His ERA is an outstanding 1.57 and has been the best pitcher that the Bucs have picked up since J Mac.

Burnett's streak, of only giving up 2 or fewer runs, matches his longest streak of his career.

If Burnett can keep this streak up and keep giving the Bucs quality starts, as he has done, the Pittsburgh Pirates will be a contender to take the division and make a run to the postseason.

The Pirates GM has mentioned that the Bucs will be looking for a big time trade like they did last year to bring new life to the Bucs line up. I personally think this is a dumb move. The Bucs are having yet another great start to their 2012 season, and shouldn't hinder that success by trying to make a trade. The team is starting to jell at the right time. They are getting production from Harrison, Hauge, McCutchen, Alveraz, and Walker and that's just with the bats. They also have what I would consider 2 aces on their team with Burnett and McDonald. Why would you want to change something that's working? I've always said, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!".

All in all the Bucs are impressing a lot of people these days, and need to try and keep the success up. I like they way they are looking, and hope they can take this momentum well past the All Star break.

Until next time,

Pirates Fall To Reds

Hey All,

For two months, Pirates pitchers have been rationalizing their offensive brothers' quiet by citing baseball's see-saw. There will be days, they said, when the pitcher doesn't have it and will have to be picked up by the hitters.

As A.J. Burnett said a few days ago in a moment of extreme hyperbole, "We'll have games where we give up an eight-spot, and [our hitters will] come up with nine."

The pitchers haven't had many of those days. Maybe Charlie Morton wanted to give that theory a try on Tuesday. Not a good idea. And not a good night. The game wasn't any better than the weather that had delayed it, and the Bucs couldn't do anything about either.

They couldn't out-hit a late (1-hour, 54-minute rain delayed), staggering start by Morton, who lasted only the first four innings of the 8-1 loss to Cincinnati at PNC Park.

The only possibly memorable part of it was the Major League debut of Jordy Mercer, which lasted all of two pitches. As an eighth-inning pinch-hitter, he grounded out on an 0-1 pitch from the Reds' Homer Bailey.

Morton had a lot of relief accomplices as the Bucs' four-game winning streak came to a crashing halt, but he unwittingly set the tone for the late evening.

He couldn't reprise his 2011 form against the Reds (3-0 with an 0.93 ERA), but his mound foe stayed true to his history with the Pirates. Bailey brought a lifetime 5-0 record and 1.94 ERA in seven starts against them to work, and put in a complete-game shift. Just to be an even bigger nuisance, Bailey also went 2-for-3 with an RBI at bat.

The Pirates could get to Bailey only in the fifth, on three consecutive one-out singles by Matt Hague, Rod Barajas and pinch-hitter Casey McGehee. The run-scoring hit improved McGehee in the pinch to 4-for-8, with a pair of RBIs; Pittsburgh's other pinch-hitters are a combined 5-for-50.

Morton allowed six hits and four runs. The hits off him included three doubles and a triple. Morton failed to register a strikeout for the second time in his last four starts. As a sinkerballer, even at his best he doesn't need swing-and-miss stuff. Still, a mere five strikeouts in the 23 innings of his last four starts could be a red flag for his pitches' lack of movement.

Doug Slaten was the first man out of the Bucs' bullpen, the left-hander working a 1-2-3 fifth in his first Major League appearance since last Sept. 27, when he was with the Nationals.

It was a milestone game for Barajas: No. 1,000 behind the plate, the third active catcher into four figures (A.J. Pierzynski 1,474 and Ramon Hernandez 1,414).

Serena Falls In First Round

Hey All,

Serena Williams lost in the first round of a major tournament for the first time in her career, falling to Virginie Razzano of France 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-3 Tuesday at the French Open.

The fifth-seeded Williams was two points from victory nine times in the second set, including leading 5-1 in the tiebreaker. But Razzano won six straight points to force a third set, and then took control of the match.

''I made so many errors today, which isn't the game I was playing in the past,'' Williams said. ''That's life.''
Williams entered the day with a 46-0 record in first-round matches at Grand Slam tournaments. She had been looking for her 14th major title, and second at Roland Garros. On clay this year, Williams was 17-0 heading into the match with two titles. But she pulled out of her last match in the semifinals of the Italian Open with a bad back.

''I didn't feel anything abnormal,'' Williams said Tuesday when asked about the injury. ''I was 100 percent healthy.''Razzano jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third set, but Williams won two straight games before what turned out to be an epic, 23-minute eighth game.

Williams had five break points in that final game.''I was just thinking, if I can break here we'll be back on serve,'' Williams said. ''You know, those are the kind of things that are going through your head.'' Razzano saved all five, however, and then converted her eighth match point to eliminate one of the tournament favorites. ''I had to dig deep against a great champion and you could see until the end that she gave away nothing,'' Razzano said. ''I had to go and get the victory. I had to be mentally strong, and I gave my everything.'' Razzano's coach and fiance, Stephane Vidal, died about a week before last year's French Open. Razzano played anyway, and lost in the first round.

This will go down in history as one of the biggest upsets in tennis history. Serena being a perfect 46-0 in Grand Slams now how one blemish against her record at 46-1. Williams battled hard and can't hang her head on this one. She was simply beat, there isn't much more you can say. The mental toughness of Razzano was outstanding, and you can't take that away from her. She may be the 115 ranked player in the world, but today she played like she was in the top 5.

Loyola (Md.) Wins First Lacross Championship

Hey All,

Unranked at the beginning of the season, Loyola of Maryland is No. 1 at the end. Loyola beat the University of Maryland 9-3 Monday to win the NCAA men's lacrosse national championship, three months after the Greyhounds opened the season miffed at being overlooked in preseason polls. "We knew what we had in our locker room through the whole year. It's just been an unbelievable journey," said Eric Lusby, who scored four goals and set an NCAA record with 17 in the tournament.

Loyola completed one of the most rewarding runs possible, going from unranked to No. 1 seed and finally national champion. The top-seeded Greyhounds captured their first NCAA title and finished the season 18-1. Loyola was in the title game for the first time since losing to Syracuse in 1990 - when current coach Charley Toomey was a goalie for the Greyhounds. "We don't bring up past history. This is our team," Toomey said. "This is a special group of young men that fought through a lot of things this year to put themselves in this position and they stood tall on the biggest day."

Maryland's three goals were the fewest allowed this season by Loyola, which shut out the Terrapins (12-6) for the final 40 minutes and 40 seconds of the match. The Terps lost in the title game for the second straight year. "I think individually they won the majority of the matchups. We were having a tough time getting leverage," Maryland coach John Tillman said. Chris Layne added three assists and Jack Runkel finished with six saves for the Greyhounds, whose only loss this season was to Johns Hopkins in overtime April 28.

When the game ended, Loyola's players rushed the field, leaving a trail of sticks, helmets and gloves for a celebratory pileup. The players then ran across the field and a few leaped into the stands to join the fans before lining up and shaking hands with the Maryland players.

The two Maryland schools are separated by about 30 miles, but it was only their 21st meeting and first since the Terrapins' 19-8 victory in the 1998 national semifinals. The Greyhounds scored seven straight goals after falling behind 3-2. The last three came from Lusby, who had five goals in the Greyhounds' 7-5 win over Notre Dame in the semifinals Saturday. "It's kind of hard to explain. I just got hot at the right time. I knew going into the tournament my shot was a little off. I kept missing the cage, so I knew I just wanted to shoot for net. I just have to give credit to all the other guys on the offense," Lusby said. "When I had the opportunity to shoot and score I just wanted to make sure I made it count."

Lusby broke the tournament record of 16 goals shared by Matt Ward of Virginia (2006) and Zack Greer (2007) of Duke. The Greyhounds scored three straight times in the second quarter for a 5-3 lead at halftime. Loyola's Justin Ward scored the only goal of the third quarter. Then the Greyhounds pulled away with three more in the fourth. Lusby added his second goal 3:48 into the fourth quarter. He tied the tournament record with 5:07 left and broke it with the final goal of the game, scoring with 3:45 to go.

"I think they did a great job on the defensive end making us a little uncomfortable," Maryland's Drew Snider said. Maryland opened the scoring on defenseman Jesse Bernhardt's goal with 9:36 left in the first quarter. The Terps went up 3-2 early in the second when Kevin Cooper scored from in front, but the Greyhounds scored the next seven. Bernhardt was knocked out of the game in a scary collision early in the first quarter. He managed to walk off the field, but Tillman said he likely has a concussion.

Pirates At .500

Hey All,

Today the Pittsburgh Pirates took on the Cincinnati Reds in a battle to get to the .500 mark for the first time this season. The Bucs did just that today as they were able to RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER! with a win today by a score of 4-1.

The Buccos got the bats going, and they got them going early scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the first inning. This was off of a Alvarez double, off the small wall in left field, bringing Walker around to score the games opening run. After that Jones was able to single to right field bringing around Alvarez.

In the second inning the Buccos were able to tack on another run after James McDonald reached base off of a fielders choice. Walker came up to bat and was able to bring J Mac around with his own double to right field and moved Tabata to third. That would be all the scoring in the 2nd inning, making the score 3-0 in favor of the Buccos.

The last score for the Bucs came in the bottom of the third inning. Barajas singled to center field and brought Alvarez around again for his second run scored this game. The score would look this way until the top of the 9th inning when the Reds were able to get their only run across the board. Heisey singled to right, bringing Votto around to score, making the score 4-1. That would be the end as the Hammer came in to close the deal and pick up another save on the season.

Speaking of the pitching for the Pirates, J Mac pitched yet another beautiful game. J Mac went 8 innings, gave up only 5 hits, walked 1 batter, and stuck out 5 on 103 pitches. McDonald has been the Pirates best pitcher as of late, and has only gotten better with every game he starts.

The Buccos were able to make it back to the .500 mark this season on a 4 game win streak as the were able to sweep the Cubs in the last series. The Reds are a very good Baseball team. They lead the Division with a record of 27-21, as the Bucs try and claw their way back up from the 4th position with a record of 24-24. Pittsburgh needs to keep this streak going well past the All Star Break, which is where they crumbled last season. Their Motto this season has been "Finish", and they've done just that thus far into the season. Let's see how long they can keep the win streak going as they get ready to face the Reds yet again tomorrow. I can't wait to see the outcome of this game, and will be posting as soon as the last pitch is thrown.

Jets QB Battle

Hey All,

Today ended the first week of Organized Team Workouts (OTA's) and the Jets have a clear picture of who their starting QB will be. Mark Sanchez just seemed to preform better this week, than his counter part Tim Tebow.

The fourth-year signal caller outshined Tim Tebow by looking sharp on his short, intermediate and deep throws. While Tebow, who was running many of the plays for the first time, threw two interceptions in 7-on-7 drills, Sanchez connected with rookie Stephen Hill for a 75-yard touchdown. “(Tebow’s) popularity drives a lot of that,” Sanchez said. “At the same time, I wouldn't be in this position if I couldn't handle it. And I’m prepared for it.” “I’m getting a good vibe from what we’re doing now,” Sanchez said of the offense.

Sanchez is looking to bounce back after a terrible, for lack of a better word, season last season. Sanchez throw a career high 26 turnovers last season, and in New York, that's not going to get it done. “I got to take care of the ball better,” Sanchez said. Now the team wants him to fix this problem so bad that the running backs coach, Anthony Lynn had a 20-minute power point presentation on the correct ways to secure the ball.

The added stress on Sanchez to do better this season, has been heightened by the arrival of Tebow. Tebow has brought on so much competition that Sanchez needs to preform at the highest level possible, in order to keep his starting job. I think this was just a tactic by coach Rex Ryan in order to get his franchise quarterback to play the way they want him to. He can't play the way he did last season, otherwise Tim Tebow will be the starter and Sanchez will be the one on the bench.

All in all, Sanchez will be the starter, and Tebow will be on the one playing on the punt team. Unless Sanchez gets hurt and will miss a lot of time, Tebow wont see a minute on offense. This whole bringing him in thing was a scam and is starting to work wonders for the Jets. Sanchez is playing well, Tebow is pushing him to play better, and the added media attention that he brings doesn't hurt either.

Until next time,

Pirates Fall Short

Hey All,

Tonight (May 22, 2012) the Pittsburgh Pirates took on the New York Mets and try to come back like they did in game one of this three game series. The Bucos fall 3-2 to the Mets after a strong pitching performance from starting pitcher James McDonald.

Before we get to the pitching battle between the two starters in tonight's game, let's take a look at how the scoring went down.

The Mets got the scoring going in the second when Nickeas singled to left, Dan Murphy scored and former Buc Cedeno moved to third. That would be it for the scoring until the bottom of the 6th inning when Andrew McCutchen hit a sacrifice fly to right fielder Duda scoring Josh Harrison. This was after Harrison hit his 2nd triple of the season. The most exciting inning scoring wise would have to be the entire 8th inning. The Mets got the bats going once McDonald came out of the game in the top of the 8th. Duda hit an infield single scoring Baxter and moving Nieuwenhuis to third. After this a bit of history was made. The Pirates have not committed an error at home in 72 innings, until the top of the 8th inning when Dan Murphy was safe at first on an infield single to Padro Alvarez Nieuwenhuis scored and Duda moved to second. That would end the scoring for the Mets. In the Bot of the 8th after a center field double by Tabata, McCutchen singled to center scoring Tabata from second. That would be the last run that would be scored in this game. When closer Francisco got his 10th save of the season for the Mets, Cruz would get the lose for the Pirates, and Dickey would get the W for the Mets.

Now to the Pitching for the Pirates. James McDonald has slowly showing that he is the Ace of this team. He went 7 innings, gave up only 4 hits, 1 Earned Run (ER), walked 2, and struck out 8 on 104 pitches. McDonald was pitching lights out, like he has been all season. He has the lowest ERA of the Pirates with a 2.68, he's struck out  50 batters this season in 8 starts(now 58 with tonight being his 9th start of the season), and have only given up 15 runs which is also the lowest on the team. McDonald just knows how to get it done in clutch games but only has a 3-2 record with 3 No Decisions (ND) this season. If McDonald could get a little bit of offense behind him, I think he would be undefeated this season. He is pitching way to well, been getting better, and has been able to increase his Pitch Count with each game he pitches. I feel that good ol' J Mac could get the saving grace, pitching wise, for the Pirates this season and for many seasons to come.

James McDonald was not the only one who was pitching a Gem tonight. The Knuckle-baller Dickey also went 7 innings, gave up 5 hits, 1 ER, and stuck out 11 on only 88 pitches, which is really low for a knuckle-baller. Dickey seems to give the Pirates trouble every time he faces the Buccos. The Pirates just seem to struggle against the knuckle ball, the Mets knew that, and gave it took them tonight. Dickey picks up another win against the Pirates, and I'm looking forward to see how the Buccos respond to this close lose tomorrow (May 23, 2012) when they try and take a split series against the Mets.

Raise The Jolly Roger!

Hey All,

Today the Pittsburgh Pirates took on the Huston Astros at PNC park. It was a low scoring affair, but was still a good one. The Pirates won in extras 3-2 with a walkoff double by Harrison in the 12th.

The Pirates got off to a quick start with Walker hitting a double, followed by McCutchen bringing him in with a double of his own. All of this happened in the first inning alone. A.J. Burnett was on the mound for the Buccos today, and pitched a pretty solid game. Burnett went 8 innings, gave up 2 runs on 6 hits, and struckout 4. All in all a good way to start creeping that ERA down to where he wants it to be. However, even though Burnett pitched as well as he did, he still got the no decision and Watson was able to pick up the win.

This was a pitching battle for sure. Both teams could only score a handful of hits, with the Pirates at 7 and the Astros at 6. The game was at the score of 2-1 in favor of the Astros from the 7th inning all the way till the Bottom of the 9th when Pedro Alverez hit a sac fly with the bases loaded to bring home the tieing run and send it into extra innings. From here the pitching would be outstanding and until the 12th neither team could do much of anything.

The Pirates have been starting to play very well together and are coming ever so close to the .500 mark. At 16-18 that puts the Buccos in 3rd in the central division, and they travel to Florida tomorrow to take on the Miami Marlenes, a very beatable team. Well see how that one turns out tomorrow, and hope the Pirates can win another series, and as always LETS GO BUCS!

Until next time,

Ravens Down A Linebacker

Hey All,

Hot off the Presses this morning from ESPN's own Adam Schefter, that Ravens Linebacker Terrell Suggs has torn his Achilles tended, and is likely to be out for the entire 2012 season. It was said that Suggs torn his Achilles while playing Basketball. Nothing wrong with a little exercise during the off season, but as a veteran of the league he should have known better.

Suggs however is staying optimistic about the situation and says that it is likely that he will be able to play this season because it's only a partial tear. "We do a conditioning test every year and I was practicing it," Suggs said via text message. "And I went to stop and turn and I thought I sprained it. Went to doc and said it's a partial tear." With Suggs getting this news, it makes him think that he will be able to return this season to the game of football. "Absolutely, middle to end of October," Suggs indicated. "Definitely beginning of November. I love how you guys (the media) are saying 'out for the season.' Just gonna make my comeback that much bigger." Now I know I'm not "the media", but I too say that Terrell will be out for the entire 2012 season. It's not likely that he will be able to get back into football shape by the time the season is over. Also it might be good for him to rest up this season and just focus on making himself stronger and be ready for the 2013 season.

Even if Suggs is only out for half or majority of the season, it's still a pretty big blow to the NFL's 3rd ranked defense last year. "We are in contact with Terrell," the Ravens said in a statement. "He will see a specialist early next week, and we'll know more at that time." This should give the Ravens a time table, at least, for how long they will have to play without Suggs in the line up.

Suggs at the age of 29 was last seasons Defensive Player of the Year. He lead the team with 14 sacks and had a franchise record 7 forced fumbles.

The Ravens do have some options at the linebacker position to replace Suggs until he is able to return. Second-round rookie outside linebacker Courtney Upshaw, an All-American from Alabama; former second-round pick Paul Kruger, who had 5 1/2 sacks last season and is the frontrunner to play strongside outside linebacker; and Pernell McPhee. McPhee is more of a traditional defensive end, a sixth-round pick who had six sacks in limited action as a rookie last year. With the Ravens aging on defense they way that they are, it might be good for them to get a real good look at who will be filling in once these "old timers" retire.

Now I think it's known that I hate the Ravens and would love to see them lose, however, I would never want this to happen to anyone on the field. I am a Steelers fan, and always will be, and want to the Steelers to be able to beat the Ravens with their entire team intact. I hope Terrell Suggs and speedy recovery and can't wait to see if he will be able to return this season.

Until next time,
You keep doing what you do, and I'll keep you up to date with everything sports.

Junior Seau, Dead at 43

Hey All,

Today, is a very sad day. Former NFL star Junior Seau was found dead in his home near San Diego. Seau was one of the best Linebackers to come to the NFL and he will be greatly missed. Police are saying that for now the investigation is be done as a suicide. Junior Seau was 43 years old.

Police Lt. Karen Laser confirmed the death, and another law enforcement officer said "this case is being investigated as a suicide and a handgun was found by the body."

Police responded to a report of a shooting at 10 a.m. at Seau's home on the coast north of San Diego.

"Everyone at the Chargers is in complete shock and disbelief right now," the San Diego Chargers said in a statement. "We ask everyone to stop what they’re doing and send their prayers to Junior and his family.”

Seau is the eighth member of the 1994 Chargers team, which reached Super Bowl XXIX, to die before reaching the age of 45.

Oceanside Mayor Jim Wood told the North County Times he learned of Seau's death from police chief Frank McCoy. The Times and TMZ reported that Seau, 43, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound by a housekeeper with a gunshot wound to his chest.

"He was a local hero — he certainly gave back to the community and to the youth through his Junior Seau Foundation," Wood told the North County Times. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends."

In October 2010, Seau survived a 100-foot plunge down a seaside cliff in his SUV, hours after he was arrested for investigation of domestic violence at the Oceanside home he shared with his girlfriend. The woman had told authorities that Seau assaulted her during an argument.

There was no evidence of drugs or alcohol involved in the crash and Seau told authorities he fell asleep while driving. He sustained minor injuries.

Seau spent parts of 20 seasons in the NFL, including 1990-2002 with his hometown Chargers. He led them to their only Super Bowl appearance, was voted to a team-record 12 straight Pro Bowls and was an All-Pro six times.

He amassed 545 tackles, 56 1/2 sacks and 18 interceptions in his career.

''Twenty years, to be part of this kind of fraternity, to be able to go out and play the game that you love, and all the lessons and the friends and acquaintances which you meet along the way, you can't be in a better arena,'' Seau said last August after the Chargers announced he would be inducted into the team's Hall of Fame.

Seau was with the Chargers from 1990, when he was the fifth pick overall in the draft out of Southern California, until being traded to the Miami Dolphins after the 2002 season. He came out of retirement a few times to play with the Patriots in search of a Super Bowl ring and was with the team when they lost to the New York Giants in the Super Bowl following the 2007 season, which ended New England's quest for a perfect season.

With all of these accomplshments, it's hard to believe that suicide is the cause of death, but not out of the question. Seau will go down as one of the greats in the league, and hope that everyone will remember what he did, while on the field. It is a great loss for the football world and hopefully Junior Seau can rest in peace.

The First 2 NFL Draft Picks

 Hey All,

As I'm sure most of you know, the NFL draft was this weekend, and with no surprise to anyone Andrew Luck was announced first to the Colts. Next to him was Robert Griffin III at the number 2 slot to the Washington Redskins, and both men have big shoes to fill. With Luck, his has to live in the shadow of Peyton Manning, and Griffin will have to try and win over the fan base there who can be a bit on the critical side. Let's get started by talking about Luck.

Andrew Luck trying to fill the shoes of Peyton Manning, who only won 4 MVP awards and a Super Bowl ring while with the Colts, but it shouldn't be that hard for Luck right? Luck went on to say this about how he feels about the whole Manning situation, ''You don't really replace a guy like that, you can't. You just try to do the best you can. Obviously, he was my hero growing up.''His selection as the top pick was hardly a stunner. The Colts informed Luck last week that Commissioner Roger Goodell would announce his name first. After Lucks name was called he went up, held the jersey with Commissioner Goodell, walked off stage, slapped hands with some Colts fans and then went right into the interview room where he was asked the obvious question about Manning. ''I realize you could go crazy trying to measure yourself to Peyton Manning every day. That would be an insane way to live,'' Luck said. ''I know his legendary status, really. Huge shoes to try and fill if you're trying to do that. ... If one day I can be mentioned alongside Peyton as one of the football greats, that would be a football dream come true.'' All in all Luck is very happy to be in Indy and playing for the Colts.

Now for RG3. Washington dealt a second-round pick this year and its first-rounders in 2013 and '14 to St. Louis to move up four spots. But they wound up with the Baylor QB who beat out Luck for the Heisman Trophy. Dressed in a light blue suit that didn't quite mesh with Redskins' burgundy and gold — and wearing socks that fit the team's color scheme and proclaimed ''GO CATCH YOUR DREAM'' — Griffin had some trouble getting the Redskins hat over his braids. He ended up wearing it just a tad crooked while he flashed big smiles for photos.''Go catch that dream — because a lot of times when you chase something you never get to it,'' he said. ''So if you say, 'Hey, I'm going to go catch my dream,' you're already telling yourself that you're going to get it.'' Griffin even was heard signing the Redskins fight song on the phone with the team when he received  his call. So it seems that he is very excited to get started with the Skins.

I think both men will be great complements to their respective teams, and should have great careers to go along with that.

Until next time,
